In the middle of it...
angel series
I am currently completing a series of paintings (7) on the new easel rig. The rig, currently know as “The Joan of Arc”, for its sacrifice and its ability to draw curvature into my paintings, is 50% operable. She is serviceable enough to begin applying its function with an aim to identify the next evolution.
The paintings I am working at developing are 1/3 of an angelic abstraction series. The first off the press is this blue palate, #2 pictured (unfinished) above being martyred on the “The Joan of Arc”. This color scheme is dedicated to the lowest choir of the Holy Angels, aptly called: The Angels.
I know a lot about Angels. Not the new wave stuff, but I love the traditional understanding of our ethereal kin. I make this distinction because I believe that our biblical knowledge and Church Father scholarship regarding the angels is far more wonderful than anything we could bring forward from our own minds.
Side note: In theology, Our passed loved ones are not angels, they are humans beloved by God. But anything is possible with God.
I don’t aim to give you a theological or metaphysical lesson here…I’m not much into teaching lessons, anyway. I simply want to tell you a portion of why I have come to the decision to celebrate angels in these paintings. If you’d like to dispute what follows or debate the actuality of anything I present regarding angels, I’m sorry.
From the 9th and lowest choir of Angels come most of our Guardian Angels. We, each one of us, have a special angelic presence that exists solely to do God’s Will and deliver our souls to him. They are helpers and messengers, protectors and conscious-tugging nags. They love us unconditionally. Here’s some quick bullets:
1 Angels were made before man
2 They are spirit without body.
3 They are sexless.
4 They have free will.
5 They are not subject to time or space.
6 A famous theologian once posited that ‘every angel is its own singular species” 1/1
That being said: Our Guardians were created at the Beginning. We were created, later. So by simple logic, my angel waited since Eden until 1974 to begin the job it was created to do- protect my soul and deliver me to Heaven.
(There is an interesting debate about when your angel takes over: conception, birth or baptism? I hope conception, but I really don’t have a reason for it. What do you think?)
This knowledge and faith provides me great comfort. My faith surrounds me with a best friend who will never turn its wings to me. It makes me feel very special and yet humble.
I associate comfort with the color blue. Therefore, the new angel paintings are about cool comfort, they are about calm in the storm. But, I see them as all energy. What is a soul, after all? What is spirit? In these colors I feel an immense energy of protection from the world around me.

Sometimes, when I hold these thoughts in my mind while working, strange things happen. Images appear in paintings. I am not asserting that these images directly correlate anything supernatural, for we must be steadfast in protecting ourselves from the lies of the devil, but I do not believe much in coincidence either. I don’t believe they are an accident, and our brain knows more than we know, but I believe they are little ‘here I ams”.
Look below. Can you find the figures? Some will see them right away. Some will never see them. Some will concentrate too hard and miss everything entirely like an 80’s hologram Unicorn on a Trapper Keeper.
I see at least five faces in this painting. I’m not crazy, I promise. Do you see anything or do you think I’m nuts? Leave a comment about it!
Take it for what it is worth to you.
In the next little bit, these seven paintings, which you will not see until all are completed, will go on sale. My guess, middle of this week. At that time, I will be making a full media blitz trying to sell them. Might tell you about that when it comes.
Paid subscribers will see the paintings first, hopefully on Wednesday.
Then, I begin the Seraphim and the Cherubim, the two highest choirs of Angels. One, Black and White represented the Cherubs specialty in the Knowledge of God. The Seraphs represented in neon reds and oranges to illustrate their burning adoration of God as they sing “Holy, Holy, Holy…”.
Until we meet again: Pax and thanks a million!
Jason
