The website is launched for this season. The store is ready with 12 new paintings ready for your wall. Though MDG is where you can keep up with my new work at any time…right here on substack…I lay out the work a couple times a year to be seen by those who do not subscribe to me. The site will close in ten days or so.

Merry Christmas!!!

Each year in late October, I begin to fashion a special gift- like product for sale. One year I made poured paintings of the State of Michigan. One year I made special reproductions. One year I dropped 100 mini paintings.

Following the text of this post…you will find everything you need receive a 20% discount on all of my artwork. A paid subscription of 55 per year will secure the discount, allow you to access the paywall for the discount code, and explain the benefits of being a Million Dollar Donor.

Million Dollar Store

This year I have had trouble narrowing down what I wanted to sell. I did, however, know what I wanted to say: “You were not made for comfort, you were made for greatness.”

Did you ever notice that the things that I tell you are precisely the things I am trying to convince myself to trust? It’s true. I am always trying to regulate my attitude via these thoughts. The point of me sharing with you is twofold: 1 To hold myself accountable to the growth that comes from these thoughts. 2 Somebody might need to hear it when I say it.

Stop pontificating, Jason! You’re supposed to be selling!. -Noahbear Sheepdog

I painted some boards, I covered them with painters tape. I made a stencil of the quote above. I laid it out on the tape, and painted the stencil. Then I cut out the all of the excess tape leaving only the letter stencils.

I then started painting over the tape. Layers and layers. After the paint dried, I began to ‘mine’ the stencils made of tape to reveal the colored quote below the layers. All in preparation for the angel paper image that I had developed.

Guess what happened: FAILURE. Almost Tears. I mean, look what happened when I started to mine stencils. (Some legit street artist in NYC is laughing at me right now.)

My goal was to make ten of these littles collages. It didn’t feel like Christmas for a second… I have three that turned out. I like them! 3 for 10 is a hall of fame career!

MDG Garage Soundtrack for the Holidays…

My mother passed away 20 years ago this year. Every Christmas season I use one memory to really get me Christmas-ing….the family, gifts and events part; but not the Christ part (Jesus is my Homeboy, always). I turn up Handel’s Messiah as loud as I can and think about her listening to it. I can imagine her singing it with her family when she was young.

Listen to Messiah Here

As I am writing now, I am listening (Noah and I are listening)…it is an opera of hope, loving remembrance and warm anticipation. It reminds me of the good things that come from work, no matter the work, no matter the degree of success…you don’t waste any effort in this world. Or anyone.

It’s snowing outside, Sami comes home today after a week in FL. I have the undecorated Christmas Tree ready for her to adorn. The stockings are hung. The glittery angel is resting on the tallest branch.

The Angels I made for you are ready to be framed and sent to your home. Guardians and Seraphim fill the studio (how many angels can rest upon the top of a Pinhead like me?)

Hope abounds.

Holy, Holy, Holy

about the new series….

Floated on the top of the Angel Hierarchy, according to St Thomas Aquinas, are the Seraphim. And the Seraphim are the new subject series for my work. They are closest to God, surrounding the throne in Revelation, singing

Holy, Holy, Holy! Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest.

What instruction does it give me that the angels closest to God, made of the purest light, have only one vocation: praise God? How does this inform my life and my work?

Simply, if I keep the main thing in my mind and my heart and on my tongue; everything is going to be alright. It feels like freedom to me.

And so, I have set forward this path by choosing brighter more seraphic colors, burning colors, but not without comfort. You’ll see!
