Overt Advert-

a mouthful of porcupine quills

I apologize in advance…

A blatant and overt sales attempt…I hate this shit. Take it from me...when you try to break out from all the trappings of the world, when your heroes are the Trappists of the world...when you have done your best to alleviate the daily strain of making money, not to eliminate it, but to make it bend to your own timeframe...when you attempt to avoid conformation to the world, and embrace the less obvious truths of the unseen...sometimes you get smacked upside your head...oh…the obscenity of the real world!

Trust me when i tell you...when the world invades your serenity and your goals...when the very thing your avoiding demands your attention...and worse...when you actually need help from the system that you are trying to avoid...from people who follow the system dutifully...man it really burns your ass.

And when your ass is burning, you have to act fast. You must make a shameless and overtly sales oriented video to attempt to sell some artwork. You have to ask your friends to do what they can…and you have to create value in return.

You can easily pick out my faulty thinking here. Hell, many people picked up on it the instant I decided to follow this path. There are eye-rolls behind my back. If I had two sets of eyes, I would probably roll the other set behind my back too.

This whole world is a paradox. I have a whole treatise regarding paradox thinking. The idea that two seemingly opposite thoughts are true, and using them against themselves, you may find balance in your thoughts. Maybe a little more peace. That theory is reserved for another day. A day when I feel confident enough (or arrogant enough?) to think that what I believe is worth something.

This whole situation smells like worldly failure. I can smell it. I can taste the smell. Usually, i can pacify myself with 'wait for God' or 'this too shall pass' or 'it all comes right on time, not when you think you need it'.

This is all a proud way to say...I need your help...a truly revolting statement. I'm selling two things: artwork and my story. Doing one or the other is an easy task. Doing them in the same day, near impossible. Million Dollar Garage is the first little writing project designed to attempt to combine my loves. Your commitment to this very young and growing project, one that has not yet proven itself, gets me giddy.

Now I ask you the following:

  • If you have had your eye on a painting…let’s make a deal.

  • If you know someone who might know someone who might like a painting…let them know to let other person know…lol-great sentence.

  • If you could share this post and it’s video, in any way you see fit or is convenient: email, text message, Substack app, in line at the bank, social media, carrier piegon, please do so.

  • Finally, and this is the biggest ask: Don’t hold it against me. Understand that your reading of my work each week is more blessing than I deserve. The world tough all over right now.

I’ll leave you a quote about perseverance from the great Tom Waits:

“It’s colder than a gut-shot, bitch wolf-dog with nine suckling pups pulling a NO. 4 trap up a hill in the dead of winter in the middle of a snowstorm with a mouthful of porcupine quills….”

-Nighthawks at the Diner, 1976

Thanks a million…
